I arrived in Inverness today with an objective to write the story about the city. Whilst walking around Old Town, I came up with the idea of writing a blog post. One about something that is often associated with Scotland: whisky.

In this article, I would like to share my experience of whisky tasting Inverness. I’ll tell the story about how the Scots from the Scottish Highlands actually drink whisky.

To find out how whiskey is consumed in Scotland I went to the pub near the bridge in the centre of Inverness. The name of the pub is Tarry Ile.

Tarry Ile Pub is small in size by has everything the traditional Scottish pub normally have including a good selection of local whisky and the jukebox. At the time of my visit to this pub, there were about 15 people sitting and drinking. I assume that most of the people I saw and heard in the pub were local by the way they spoke.

One glass of unmixed and undiluted single malt whisky will cost you £2.70.


I started my whisky tasting Inverness with a single malt called MacCallan. This whisky is of light colour and it’s very smooth. I really enjoyed sipping it mixed with one cube of ice served in a whiskey glass.

While drinking my first glass the other guest in the pub kept entertaining me by the music from the jukebox. The man who controlled the jukebox kept selecting the British classic tunes by Queen and Rod Stewart.

My second glass was Glenmorangie – another single malt of high quality. This whisky delivered a very different experience. Glenmorangie is richer in flavour but not smoother than MacCallan.  After my second glass, I really started to feel and enjoy the atmosphere of the Scottish Highlands and the local culture. The tune that entertained me while having a glass of Glenmorangie was Angie by the Rolling Stones.

The most important message to take away from this blog is that Scotch malts affect the quality of blogs.
